Roots to Resilience - Nature Connection and Outdoor Wellbeing

Roots to Resilience is our fully funded free to access community outreach project, launched in January 2025 as a pilot of three six-week sessions and a one day retreat for refugee women

We designed this programme to respond to growing challenges in our community:

  • Rising rates of poor mental health

  • Disconnection from nature, community, and self

  • Burnout and social isolation

  • Lack of affordable, accessible green space and transport

  • Anxiety about the climate, social and ecological emergencies

Drawing on over a decade of experience with nature-based interventions — and guided by the University of Derby’s Five Pathways to Nature Connectedness — we set out to create a safe, nourishing programme where people could reconnect with themselves, one another, and the natural world.

This has been made possible by the generous support of our hosts and partners 42 Acres and independent funding from Claire O’Neill.

Impact so far

  • 32 participants

  • 81% could not have attended without transport

  • 93% could not usually access 42 Acres

  • 86% reported improved wellbeing and resilience

  • 68% attended at least 5 of the sessions (exceptionally high for mental health provision)

  • 76% learnt new skills

This is an opportunity to make the land accessible for members of our community who would really benefit from the healing power that this work can bring and who would find it difficult to come here otherwise.

We provide a free minibus from Frome driven by our friends at Foxy's Den

"The effect of the Roots to Resilience course was a surprise to me in terms of how profound simplicity can be upon our well-being. We were deeply held and cared for by the land and the wonderful facilitators who had thought of every detail."
