Roots to Resilience

Roots to Resilience is our free to access community outreach project. We run year round, six-week nature connection courses for adults struggling with their mental health and one day retreats for women from the refugee community.

Impact so far

  • 39 participants

  • 74% could not have attended without transport

  • 93% could not usually access 42 Acres

  • 86% reported improved well-being and resilience

  • 76% attended at least 5 of the sessions (exceptionally high for mental health provision)

  • 82% learnt new skills/practices

This programme was created in response to the growing challenges faced by our community, including rising rates of mental ill health, disconnection from nature and one another, burnout, social isolation, lack of affordable green space and transport, and increasing anxiety about climate, social, and ecological emergencies.

Drawing on more than a decade of experience leading nature-based interventions and guided by the University of Derby’s Five Pathways to Nature Connectedness, we provide a safe and nourishing space where people can reconnect with themselves, with community, and with the natural world.

Roots to Resilience has been made possible through the generous support of 42 Acres and independent funding from Claire O’Neill.. We are currently seeking funding to enable us to continue with this vital work.

Our referral partners include Frome Medical Centre, Refugee Welcome Hub, Mind in Somerset, Frome Job Centre, Better Nature Ecotherapy and the Good Heart Cafe.

This programme opens the land to those who would deeply benefit from its healing qualities and who may otherwise face barriers to accessing nature. We provide free transport from Frome, to make attendance possible for all participants.

We are not currently seeking volunteers for this programme.

"The effect of the Roots to Resilience course was a surprise to me in terms of how profound simplicity can be upon our well-being. We were deeply held and cared for by the land and the wonderful facilitators who had thought of every detail."
